@ Nuclei Related with the Glossopharyngeal Nerve
1. Rostral part of the nucleus ambiguus Þ 含Branchio-motor (SVE) neurons，支配Stylopharyngeus muscle (莖突咽肌)。此肌作用於吞嚥，可提起甲狀軟骨，將喉部(舌骨)上舉。
2. Inferior salivary nucleus Þ 位於Superior salivary nucleus的尾端以及Nucleus ambiguus的頂端之間，含GVE neurons。Inferior salivary nucleus Þ Tympanic branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve Þ Tympanic plexus Þ Lesser petrosal nerve (通過Tympanic canaliculus) Þ Synapse in the otic ganglion Þ Postganglionic fibers via auriculotemporal branch of the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve Þ Parotid gland。
3. Petrosal ganglion (岩神經節) = Inferior glossopharyngeal ganglion
(1) 含有味覺的Primary sensory (SVA) neurons，可傳遞舌後三分之一及咽部味蕾的Gustatory sense (Taste)。Taste buds Þ Lingual branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve Þ Cell bodies in the petrosal ganglion Þ Solitary tract Þ Gustatory nucleus (位於Rostral part of the nucleus of the solitary tract)。
(2) 含有內臟感覺的Primary sensory (GVA) neurons，可傳遞舌後三分之一、上咽部的後壁、E-tube、Carotid sinus、Parotid gland的感覺。Cell bodies in the petrosal ganglion Þ Solitary tract Þ Nucleus of the solitary tract。
4. Superior glossopharyngeal ganglion Þ 含有一般感覺的Primary sensory (GSA) neurons，可傳遞Cutaneous sensory impulses from areas back of the ear。Tympanic branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve Þ Superior pharyngeal ganglion Þ Dorsomedial part of the spinal trigeminal tract Þ Spinal trigeminal nucleus。
@ Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia (舌咽神經痛) Þ It resembles trigeminal neuralgia in that the excruciating pain is paroxysmal and may be triggered by seemingly trivial stimuli such as coughing or swallowing. The pain associated with this syndrome radiates to regions behind the ear.
@ Glossopharyngeal Nerve in the PNS
1. Tympanic nerve (鼓神經) Þ 其Sensory fibers支配中耳，然後形成Lesser petrosal nerve經由Otic ganglion去支配Parotid gland。
2. Communicating branch with auricular branch of vagus nerve
3. To stylopharyngeus muscle
4. To carotid sinus (與Afferents from the carotid body共同形成Sinocarotid nerve)
5. Pharyngeal nerve Þ 為Sensory fibers，其分枝穿過Superior pharyngeal constrictor muscle，而終止於Mucous membrane of the pharynx。其他分枝會加入Pharyngeal branch of the vagus nerve。
6. Tonsillar nerve (扁桃腺神經) Þ 為Sensory fibers，支配Pharyngeal wall、Epiglottis、Soft palate、Palatine tonsil。
7. Lingual nerve Þ 為Sensory fibers，傳遞舌後三分之一及咽部味蕾的味覺。
